Northern Dauphin Center to celebrate a decade of “Valley Strong” values
Service is about always being there, in good times and bad.
For the past decade, the Northern Dauphin Human Services Center (NDHSC) in Elizabethville has truly “been there” for area families and residents, providing compassion and high-quality care in a convenient location, whenever needed.
The popular center at 295 State Drive, by Walmart, opened in January 2009, after years of study, planning, Human Services Advisory Board meetings with nearly 100 people, and much anticipation. The overwhelming consensus was that northern Dauphin needed a “one-stop shop of services.” In 2019, a celebration of the Elizabethville-based center’s 10-year anniversary will feature a year-long menu of special events.
“For years, northern Dauphin residents were forced to travel over Peters Mountain to access care and county services,’’ said George P. Hartwick, III, who oversees the county’s Human Services. “Now, the care has come to them, and it has changed so many lives for the better.”
In addition to 14 in-house agency services, other agencies provide access to their services at the center. Annual events have been created to meet identified needs of the community like Career Fairs, Family Wealth thru Health and Ladies Night Out Health and Wellness Events, Back to School programs, Project Prom Wear, community engagement events like the Fall Festival, Town Hall Meetings, First Responder Appreciation and so much more.
“The ‘Valley Strong’ philosophy comes to life at the NDHSC,” Commissioner Jeff Haste said. “We have helped veterans secure the services they have earned, supported families in trying times and guided individuals and families trapped in a cycle of addiction. Over the years, we have seen success story after success story.”
Among the services offered at the NDHSC are Adult Probation, Juvenile Probation, the Area Agency on Aging, Children and Youth, Crisis Intervention, Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services, Naaman Center, Northern Dauphin Food Pantry, Recorder of Deeds, Sheriff’s Office, Register of Wills, Case Management Unit, Veterans Affairs and Merakey Behavior Health Services.
“Public-private partnerships are at the heart of the success at the NDHSC,” Commissioner Mike Pries said. “We are blessed to always find sponsors who step up and help us make the Northern Dauphin region even better, including local businesses, school districts, community organizations and local leaders.’’
