Long Term Care Ombudsman

"Ombudsman” is a Swedish word meaning “Citizen Representative.” Ombudsmen provide guidance and education to promote resident rights, quality of care, and quality of life. In Pennsylvania, a Long-Term Care Ombudsman serves as an advocate who resolves complaints made by, or on behalf of, long-term care consumers. Support is available to residents of nursing homes, personal care homes, assisted living residences, domiciliary care homes, older adult day centers, and individuals receiving long-term care services in their homes. The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program requires the resident’s consent to intervene, and aims to work cooperatively to remedy problems. The Vision Statement for the Ombudsman Program is to “Advocate for those who can’t, support those who can, and ensure all long-term care consumers live with dignity and respect.” Volunteer opportunities are also available within our Ombudsman Program.
